Mastermind of Sakhi Sarwar blast arrested

DERA GHAZI KHAN: The mastermind of Sakhi Sarwar blast tragedy, Behram Khan, has been taken under arrest along with his four other aides, Dera Ghazi Khan police claimed this on Monday night.

Meanwhile, police have also succeeded to obtain a ten-day physical remand of the suspect from an anti-terrorism court, sources said.

According to details released by police, commander Ayub, Darra Ali and Behram Khan plotted to trigger a string of suicide attacks on a number of shrines in Mir Ali in December 2010.

A commander, Qari Zafar, provided the accused with explosives, suicide vests and other logistic support to carry out suicide attacks; police claimed, adding that Behram Khan had been apprehended from Bajaur Agency some days ago.

Later, the arrested accused, Behram, was produced before an Anti-terrorism Court (ATC) here in the evening wherein Judge Mohammed Ayub granted police his 10-day physical remand.

In the meantime, police obtained information from accused during investigation which led to capture of four more suspects, allegedly associate of mastermind, who were later identified as Saleem Jan, Ahmed Baloch, Bashir Ahmed and Asghar.

However, the associate commanders of key accused Ayub, Darra Ali and Qari Zafar have yet to be seized.

It is pertinent to mention here that more than 50 devotees and pilgrims martyred and over 100 sustained injuries in Sakhi Sarwar suicide blast in Dear Ghazi Khan.

Angelina exhibits jewellery collection

NEW YORK: With six children, a thriving film career, and commitments as a UN Goodwill Ambassador, we're not quite sure how Angelina Jolie finds time for partner Brad Pitt, let alone anything else.

But the star has somehow managed to create a full fine jewellery collection, which went on display for the first time in Beverly Hills yesterday.

Each piece in the Style of Jolie line, designed in collaboration with jeweller Robert Procop, features semi-precious and precious stones, from white quartz and citrine to emeralds and diamonds.

The collection, which is displayed as an exhibition at Julien's Gallery, was created to raise funds for the Education Partnership for Children in Conflict.
The actress was not present at the launch, but she has already been seen wearing her jewellery designs in public.

She wore a pair of yellow gold and green beryl 'Tablet' drop earrings to the New York premiere of her film The Tourist last December.

Mr Procop explained that the design was inspired by a gift he and Ms Jolie designed for Mr Pitt one Christmas, and was based on the concept of 'ancient carved tablet engravings, encapsulating the essence of hidden meaning'.

The Premiere black faceted necklace, which features 47 black spinels set in 18k rose gold was worn by Ms Jolie to the premiere of her movie, Salt, is also on show. An image of her wearing the piece is displayed alongside it in the gallery.

Among the other designs is the five-row citrine tablet bracelet, designed to create 'an elegant cascade down the arm of the wearer', according to Mr Procop's website.

Also part of the display is a large pear-shaped green beryl pendant, and the Exceptional Emerald necklace, which boasts 103 carats of 'vivid green' stones - the highest-quality classification - set in yellow gold.

In a statement on the jeweller's website, Ms Jolie described the creative process involved in creating the collection.

She wrote: 'In collaborating with Robert, we identified favorite characteristics like vivid colors and dramatic faceting, in each gemstone. From there, everything fell into place.

'By making the gemstone the main focus of the design, we feel the simplicity of each piece becomes timeless.

'Beyond enjoying the artistic satisfaction of designing these jewels, we have been fortified by knowing that our work is also serving our mutual goal of providing for children in need.'

Mr Procop, in turn, was full of admiration for the star, describing the result as 'artistic'.

Speaking in a video to promote the exhibition, he said: 'This is a collaboration between Angelina Jolie and myself, and designing beautiful jewels as a piece of an art form.

'What we’re showing here is a collection that Angelina and I have been working on for the last nine months or so, building not only a part of her style, but real artistic forms, using gemstones as a centerpiece.

'But our main mission is helping children in crisis by educating children around the world.'

The exhibition is by invitation only, and also includes a vintage diamond choker worn by Ms Jolie in The Tourist.

Procop revealed that there had already been 'great interest' in the collection.

Dilshan named new Sri Lanka captain

COLOMBO: Sri Lanka's cricket authorities on Monday named big-hitting all-rounder Tillakaratne Dilshan as captain for the upcoming tour of England.

Dilshan will lead the side in all three formats of the game -- Tests, one-day internationals and Twenty20s -- on the tour, Sri Lanka Cricket said in a statement.

The 34-year-old, renowned for an over-the-head scoop shot dubbed the "Dilscoop", replaces Kumar Sangakkara, who stepped down after Sri Lanka lost the World Cup final to India earlier this month.

Fitness worries meant the five-member national selection panel headed by Duleep Mendis, a former Sri Lanka skipper, did not name a vice-captain.

"The prospective candidates are nursing injuries and their availability for the forthcoming tour is still in question," the statement said.

All-rounder Angelo Mathews, 23, has been tipped for the role, but he is nursing a side strain suffered during the World Cup semi-final.

Dilshan, a right-handed batsman currently playing in the Indian Premier League, is expected to travel to Colombo this week to meet the selectors and pick the squad for England.

The tour runs from May to July and includes three Tests, five one-day games and a Twenty20 match.

The son of a police officer, Dilshan is the 11th full-time Sri Lankan skipper. He made his Test debut against Zimbabwe in 1999 and hit an unbeaten 163 in his second Test match in Harare.

His career took off in 2009 when he volunteered to open in all three forms of the game in Pakistan, exploiting attacking fields and amassing huge scores in all formats.

He scored 11 international hundreds in the year and won the World Twenty20 Player of the Series prize.

Dilshan also had an excellent World Cup, where he was the tournament's highest scorer with 500 runs.

His appointment is expected to be a short-term move because he is not expected to be a candidate for the 2015 World Cup to be played in Australia and New Zealand.

He also asked the Prime Minister to take the house into confidence on the latter’s recent visit to Afghanistan and the negotiations held there.

The Opposition Leader said the opinion of the opposition on the Electoral Reforms Bill was bulldozed and that he wanted to resubmit the Bill to the Standing Committee for bill review. “NADRA is trying to create 31 fake votes in my constituency,” he alleged.

He said Chairman NADRA was a friend of the most important personality of the country.

Shane Watson becomes top-ranked ODI all-rounder

Australia’s Shane Watson has become the top-ranked ODI all-rounder and has also achieved a career-best ranking to date in the Reliance ICC ODI Rankings which were released on Thursday at the end of Bangladesh and Australia series which finished on Wednesday.

Watson has piped Shakib Al Hasan into number-one position in the all-rounders’ rankings after taking three wickets and scoring 294 runs in the series. He now leads the Bangladesh captain by a comfortable 44 points margin.

Watson’s scores of 37, 185 not out and 72 in the series have also helped the 29-year-old Queenslander vault nine places to a career-best fourth position. He is now the highest-ranked Australia batsman with Mike Hussey staying in sixth place, captain Michael Clarke rising two places to 11th spot and former captain Ricky Ponting moving one place up to 16th position.

For Bangladesh, Imrul Kayes has climbed four places to 42nd position but Shakib has slipped two places to 26th spot.

In the Reliance ICC Player Rankings for ODI bowlers, Mitchell Johnson’s seven wickets in the series have given him a lift of seven places and he now sits in sixth position. Brett Lee is the other Australia bowler who has improved his ranking as he has returned to the top 20 in 20th position after a jump of three places.

The news for Bangladesh bowlers is not very good as Abdur Razzak, Shakib Al Hasan and Mashrafe Mortaza have dropped in the latest rankings. Razzak has fallen five places to 11th position, Shakib has slipped three places to 15th spot and Mashrafe has dropped four places to 36th place.

Meanwhile, India and Australia have won US$175,000 each for finishing as the number-one ranked sides in Test and ODI Championship tables, respectively at the 1 April 2011 cut-off date.

India has been sitting on top of the Test Championship table since December 2009 while Australia has been occupying the number-one position on the ODI Championship table since leapfrogging South Africa and India in September 2009.

In addition to the US$175,000, India has also pocketed US$75,000 for finishing as the second-ranked ODI team while South Africa has also earned US$75,000 for ending in second position in the Test Championship table at the cut-off date.

Cricket-Dilshan to captain Sri Lanka on tour of England

Tillakaratne Dilshan will take over from Kumar Sangakarra as captain of Sri Lanka for next month's tour of England.

Sangakkara decided to step down after the team lost to India in this month's World Cup final.

"We are proud to announce the appointment of Dilshan as the national captain in all three formats of the game for the tour of England," Sri Lanka Cricket said in a statement on Monday.

"The national selectors have postponed the appointment of a vice-captain since the prospective candidates are nursing injuries and their availability for the forthcoming tour is still in question."

Opening batsman Dilshan, 34, was the leading run-scorer in the World Cup with 500 at an average of 62.50.

He has led Sri Lanka once before, on a tour of Zimbabwe in June last year, when his team won a one-day tri-series which also featured India.

This is the first time Dilshan has been picked to lead his country in a test series.

Chairman of selectors Duleep Mendis said the tour squad would be selected after Dilshan returns from the Indian Premier League where he is representing Royal Challengers Bangalore.

Sri Lanka have told all their IPL players to return home by May 5 to prepare for the tour.

The squad are due to leave for England on May 10 for a series of three tests, five one-dayers and one Twenty20 international.

Aishwarya Rai Bachchan has been keeping Sanjay Dutt waiting as she has not yet given her dates for ‘Satte Pe Satta’ remake. Sanjay is keen to have Ash in the remake of the yesteryears blockbuster but Aishwarya Rai Bachchan is busy with her other assignments and not yet given her dates. Rumors are floating around that Sanjay is upset with Ash’s delay. Sanjay who is a man of few words is totally upset with the rumor and said that he is not at all angry with Ash and infact someone is trying to create differences between him and the Bachchans.

A source close to Dutt said, "Sanju is very upset with people spreading rumours about him being upset with Aishwarya.

Sanju feels that some people with vested interests are trying to create misunderstanding between the Bachchans and him".

A visibly agitated Dutt said, "The rumours about me being upset with Aishwarya are rubbish! I am upset with people who are spreading such rumours instead. The Bachchans are like my family. I can never be upset with them. We all know that filmmaking is a time-taking process. Everything takes time and happens in its due course.
Ash has told me that she needs some time and we at SDP are prepared to wait till eternity for her. It will be a pleasure working with Ash, if she agrees to do Satte Pe Satta."

In the remake, Dutt wants the Bachchan Bahurani to essay the role of Hema Malini.

Ranbir's false remark about Kat irks Salman

If you irked Salman in anyway, you have to face the dire consequences. Though not directly, Salman is all geared to spoil Ranbir Kapoor’s career. RK's latest comment about Katrina Kaif that he has never dated Kat did not go well with Sallu Miya and he has reached out to his producer friends like Bhushan Kumar and Sajid Nadiadwala and asked them not to cast RK in their films.

Though Salman is not dating Kat anymore, he is still possessive about her and he could not tolerate any hurting comment about her.

"It all began when the Katrina Kaif-RK affair started. But Sallu refused to believe there was any truth to it. Ranbir's recent statement to a news channel that he was never dating Kat irked Khan. It is believed that this has hurt Kaif," a source told.

"There are hushed whispers in the industry that SK is sending feelers to his producer friends like Bhushan Kumar and Sajid Nadiadwala not to cast RK for their films," the source added.

The first look definitely looks very funny. Ajay and Sanjay bare-chested, tattooed bare babies with an adult face. Dutt, is also seen wearing diapers and sexy aviators. The first look however, doesn’t feature Kangana Ranaut. But it is heard that she will be seen in bikini and glamorous makeover in the film.

Shahid Kapoor is all set to star in a action flick, directed by Siddharth Anand and produced by Ramesh Taurani of Tips. This is indeed some good news for all his fans.

Buzz doing the rounds is that, the film will be on similar lines of the Hollywood hit Knight and Day, starring Tom Cruise. News also has it that the filmmakers might as well purchase the rights to the original.

The film will start its production very soon.

Shahid’s previous action flick Kaminey (2009) won him millions of praises from all over.

This year, Shahid will be seen in Mausam directed by Pankaj Kapoor with co-stars Aditi Sharma, Anupam Kher, Sonam Kapoor and Supriya Pathak, Kunal Kohli’s Next directed by Kunal Kohli with co-star Priyanka Chopra and Sajid Nadiadwala’s Heer Aur Ranjha to be directed by Sabir Khan with co-star Deepika Padukone.
